Most profile advice is generic social-media advice with the platform name swapped out. Bluesky is different in two specific ways, and both change what a good profile looks like.
There's no algorithm buying you reach. No ads, no promoted posts, and the main feed is chronological. Reach comes from showing up in other people's conversations, which is why the reply ratio is the heaviest-weighted check in this audit. An account that only broadcasts is invisible no matter how good the bio is.
Identity is domain-based. Anyone can be @name.bsky.social, but a handle on a domain you control is a signal you can't fake cheaply. It's free to set up and it's the closest thing the platform has to verification — our custom domain tool generates the DNS record for you.
The rest is table stakes that most accounts still miss: an avatar, a banner, a bio that says what you do and who for, a pinned post worth landing on, alt text on your images, and enough recent activity that a visitor believes you're still here.
Work top-down by effort. The profile-setup checks are a fifteen-minute job and they're worth 50 of the available points — do those first, today.
The content and consistency checks are the real work, because they're habits rather than settings. If your reply ratio is under 25%, that's the highest-leverage thing on this page: find four conversations a day where you can be genuinely useful and reply without pitching. Our 5-step system for finding customers covers how to find those conversations, and the niche framework covers picking the keywords that surface them.
Eleven checks in four groups. Profile setup: avatar, banner, bio, display name, custom domain handle, and pinned post. Content strategy: your reply ratio, how often you post links off-platform, and image alt text. Consistency: posting cadence and how recently you posted. Reach: your follower-to-following ratio.
Each check is worth a set number of points, and the score is the percentage you earned out of the points available. Checks we can't judge — like alt text when you haven't posted images — are dropped from the total instead of counted as failures, so a newer account isn't punished for missing data.
Because it's the strongest predictor of growth on Bluesky. Replies drive more profile visits than broadcasts do, and the platform's culture rewards being useful in other people's threads. It's the single check most accounts fail, and the one worth fixing first.
Because it can't be calculated. Engagement rate is interactions divided by impressions, and Bluesky's API exposes no impression or reach data at all. Any Bluesky engagement-rate percentage you see quoted is estimated or invented. We show median interactions per post instead, which is a real number.
Yes. The tool only reads public data, so it works on any public Bluesky account. Running it on a few accounts you admire in your niche is a good way to see what a strong profile looks like.
No. The audit reads Bluesky's public API through our server and scores the result in your browser. Nothing about the account you look up is saved, and you don't need an account with us to use it.
Up to the 200 most recent items on the account, including replies. Reposts are excluded from the content and cadence maths so they don't skew the numbers.
SkyGrow finds the conversations worth replying to, drafts replies in your voice, and tracks whether any of it is working.
